POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Telephone
and Wiring Services, the incumbent is responsible for telecommunications
network design, installation, and maintenance for all schools and offices. This
includes all related hardware and electronics in schools and offices. Work also
includes providing critical local area networks, wireless and wide area network
technical support to all school system networks. Work is performed under
general supervision and is reviewed in terms of accomplishment of objectives.
Assignments are received through conferences, written instructions/requests
affording latitude in independent judgment and action in the performance of
duties.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Participates
in the formulation of current and long range network design plans;
Works
with team to design, implement, maintain, and administer all current and future
wired and wireless networks throughout the school district;
Troubleshoots
and makes appropriate repairs for current Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity
issues;
Assisting
in installation, configuring and implementation of various types of servers
into a network infrastructure;
Works
closely with the office of Planning and Architectural Services on the design of
telecommunication networks in new schools and offices, and renovations;
Performs
work-in-progress inspections;
Maintains
a database of building floor plans that accurately represents the current
telecommunications infrastructure;
Maintains
current knowledge of emerging telecommunications technologies and equipment and
informs staff;
Develops
specifications for the purchase of networking materials, network design
services, qualified network installation contractors and network installation
reviews and evaluates the responses to the resultant bids and proposals and
recommends awards;
Supervises
the design, construction, evaluation, and maintenance of telecommunications
network projects; tests and evaluates network installations;
Consults/coordinates
with materials, vendors and contractors on a daily basis;
Assists
in budget planning and management; and
Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Working
knowledge of HPE/Aruba Network equipment including but not limited to Clear
Pass, Airwave, Aruba OS 6X and 8X, Mobility Access Switch;
Working
knowledge of Cisco, Brocade (Exterme Networks) switches and routers;
Considerable knowledge and experience in Windows Seven, Eight,
Ten to present day releases of Windows desktop operating systems;
Considerable knowledge and experience in Windows server software
from Windows 2008, 2012 R2 to present release versions of Windows server
operating systems and Microsoft applications;
Considerable knowledge in Windows Active Directory administration
and troubleshooting;
Extensive knowledge with
Ethernet networks;
Knowledge and experience
with Local Area Networks installation, configuration,
maintenance and repair;
Knowledge and experience
in the configuration of routers and a large quantity of switches;
Knowledge and experience
with Category 5e, 6, 6a, IEEE 802.11 data communications design standards and multi-mode/single
mode fiber optics;
Knowledge and experience
with Macintosh operating systems;
Knowledge and experience
with UNIX & Linux variants;
Ability to maintain and troubleshoot LAN and WAN connectivity
and applications;
Able
to support multiple vendor networks;
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills;
Excellent human relation skills;
Maintain confidentiality; and
Must
have clear understanding of the role of technology in public education and the
vision to accomplish the mission of the department.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or
Information Sciences with at least five (5) years’ experience supporting large
wired and wireless networks.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Preferred one or more of the following with ability to obtain the following. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and/or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Aruba Certified Mobility Associate (ACMA), Aruba Certified Mobility Professional (ACMP), Aruba Certified ClearPass Professional (ACCP), Brocade Certified Network Engineer (BCNE), Brocade Certified Network Professional (BCNP).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Must have a valid active Driver’s License in good standing.
The employee in this position must have a reliable automobile as it is necessary in this position to travel to and from various PGCPS locations on a moment’s notice and frequently.
In this position the employee will be required to perform work occasionally on evenings and weekends with little to no notice.
