POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Night Cleaner Lead is a working leader responsible for a small crew of three or less Cleaners.  A Night Cleaner Lead performs the same basic duties as a Cleaner, but has been assigned the responsibility for inspecting the completed work of others and deciding whether it is acceptable.  Responsibilities include, but not limited to maintaining time and material records, sweeping, moping, waxing, and buffing floors, halls, and stairways; securing buildings at night; receiving, storing and dispensing cleaning supplies and equipment; reporting maintenance and repair needs to supervisor; performing related duties as required.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Performs assigned cleaning routines and upkeep duties as scheduled and directed selects appropriate equipment, materials and supplies and is responsible for their proper use and care in accordance with prescribed methods and practices;

Sweeps, mops, scrubs, oils, waxes, seals and polishes floors using hand and power equipment; vacuums carpeted areas; strips and rewaxes or reseals floors when required; removes gum or other foreign matter;

Cleans and polishes office, classroom and other furniture and equipment; cleans woodwork, windows, doors, mirrors, walls, blackboards, venetian blinds, ceilings, light fixtures, and ventilators;

Supplies lavatories, shower rooms and maintains the facilities in a clean and sanitary condition;

Collects and properly disposes of trash; unloads and stores delivered materials, supplies and equipment; moves furniture, files, boxes, etc., to clean assigned areas or as requested;

Replaces burned out lights and makes simple adjustments and repairs; observes and reports hazardous or otherwise defective and irregular conditions; closes and secures windows and turns out lights when not in use to prevent unnecessary waste of electricity and fuel;

Cleans and polices outside areas; participate in snow removal program; mows lawns and performs a variety of other duties in caring for the grounds and landscaping;

Maintains harmonious relationships with other school personnel, students and the public;

May perform laundry work in the operation of washers, extractors and dryers; and

Perform related duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Good knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment;

Ability to use cleaning equipment and supplies economically and efficiently;

Ability to read, understand and follow simple oral and written directions;

Ability to keep simple records and make reports; and

Ability to supervise the work of a small number of custodial personnel.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Completion of the eighth grade, preferably with some building cleaning experience at the level of Cleaner, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Possession of certificate of completion of training courses prescribed by the Department of Plant Operations.


 

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Responsible for reviewing the work of a small crew of three or less Cleaners.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to perform extensive walking, stooping, pushing, carrying, climbing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs. independently, and have the ability to exert force required to twist/turn equipment/tools required to perform assigned tasks. The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
