POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the direction of the Director of Technology Operations, the Oracle Systems Administrator is responsible for controlling access to Oracle Applications and assuring smooth ongoing operations. The work involves responsibility for planning, coordinating and implementing security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Manages and controls security; decides which users have access to each application; determines which users have access to specific forms, functions and reports within the applications;

Sets up new users; registers new Oracle Applications users and grants access to those forms, functions and reports necessary;

Confers with management, programmers, staff auditors and security personnel to identify and plan for data security;

Develops, communicates and implements data and computer security policies and procedures;

Analyzes, selects, recommends and coordinates installation of security software, locks, alarm system and other security measures;

Develops and implements tests of computer systems to monitor effectiveness of security;

Reviews computer logs and messages to identify and report on possible violations of security;

Assigns and maintains user login and passwords;

Sets up User Profiles at the site, application, responsibility and user levels;

Manages concurrent processing,, taking full advantage of multitasking and parallel processing;

Develops, coordinates and implements disaster or emergency recovery procedures for information systems and computer environment; and

Performs related work as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Knowledge of all aspects of database administration;

Knowledge in UNIX System administration preferable but not required;

Knowledge with SQL* Plus/ PL/SQL, Triggers, and Procedures;

Skill with Oracle Enterprise Manager, Diagnostics and Tuning Pack;

Skill in backup and recovery procedures, basic performance and application tuning;

Skill in implementing applications using Oracle7/8, Advanced Replication and Performance Tuning;

Ability to simultaneously support databases, junior DBA's, and clients without direction;

Demonstrated ability using Oracle in an IBM UNIX environment;

Ability to supervise;

Ability to work independently;

Excellent oral and written communication skills; and

Excellent human relations skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:



 

Bachelors degree in computer science or related field with a minimum of five years of computer/RDBMS experience; two (2) years' experience as an Oracle DBA preferably with Version 8;and experience as a DBA in the public sector, preferably in a K12 environment.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Certified as an Oracle DBA or related OCP Certification; certified in one of the Oracle Professional Development Paths (OPDP) particularly the Administrator Path, at the Master level.


 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


 

Oversees the staff assigned to the database administration.
