POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Principal, the Outreach Caseworker – International High School has the overall responsibility for the recruitment of students into the International High School program. The Outreach Caseworker will develop multiple entry points for families to foster student achievement. The Outreach Caseworker will create and strengthen relationships between families and school staff: this includes calling families of students who are having attendance issues on a daily basis after second period, planning, facilitating and executing monthly and annual workshops and events to promote school culture. Lastly, the Outreach Caseworker will build collaborations with community members to build a reliable network of thought partners and to open opportunities for both parents and scholars. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate and work with all families. This position requires oral, reading and written fluency in both English and other commonly spoken language(s) identified in the school.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Overall responsibility for the recruitment of students into the International High School Program;

Responsible for maintaining a welcoming and efficient front office that emphasizes organization, professionalism, courtesy, flexibility, and teamwork;

Create and proofread professional correspondence including letters, newsletters and other deliverables as needed;

Work with administration to develop and implement marketing and outreach campaigns for student and parent recruitment;

Work with Parent Leadership Team to provide assistance in establishing by-laws, holding elections, conducting their affairs and attending monthly meetings;

Explore and utilize social media to expand outreach for the school;

Coordinate the necessary clearances and permissions for students and staff to appear in brochures, videos, etc.;

Coordinate interpreter services;

Serve as facilitator for parent and school community concerns and issues including, for example, school policies or facilities issues;

Serve as a school liaison for vendors providing student support services;

Participate in attendance meetings and follow-up with attendance concerns;

Responsible for the administration of school surveys to parents in conjunction with PGCPS;

Build relationships with families that support ongoing communication and involvement in school activities;

Organize back to school and other events to increase parental and community involvement and creates a welcoming school environment to parents;

Convene regular parent meetings and events around topics of key concerns to parents;

Respond to student, parent and staff inquiries and (triage);

Attend parent meetings along with the principal, where appropriate;

Create and maintain systems to manage student and parent information appropriately;

Utilize school specific adopted administrative technology (Google docs, email, Google Classroom, etc.);

Train parents in learning management system so that they may access information about their student's progress;

Establish relationships with county middle schools and high schools to find appropriate candidates and to ensure program capacity;

Maintain and updating an extensive database aimed towards the efficient processing of potential candidates;

Prepare regular, accurate, timely reports to document recruiting and service delivery;

Support the functions of other staff and serves as an integral member of the IHS team; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Excellent knowledge of Prince George’s County and its resources;

Required oral, reading and written fluency in both English and other commonly spoken language(s) identified in the school;

Training and experience in social work/counseling preferred;

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team;

Understands and respects the diversity of families' economic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds and situations;

Knowledge of and ability to work with large populations of English Language Learners and their families;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff, students, families, and the public;

Ability to demonstrate good judgment, tact, confidentiality, diplomacy, patience, and courtesy;

Ability to make presentations before small and large audiences;

Ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate events that foster family and community participation;

Ability to maintain documentation to provide evidence of parental engagement activities at the assigned school;

Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends;

Effective time and project management skills;

Computer literacy to include the use of Microsoft Word applications;

Strong interpersonal skills; and

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree of applicable education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position required, with two (2) years of related experience with students and/or youth development.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Holds or is eligible for a professional certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).  In lieu of a professional certificate, a state issued license as a related service provider through the Maryland Department of Health may be considered.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
