POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the general supervision of the HVAC Plumbing Master Foreman, supervises and performs
skilled work as a Plumber in the maintenance and repair of plumbing, heating
and cooling systems in school buildings and facilities. This is highly skilled
work involving responsibility for the performance of difficult and specialized
plumbing maintenance, installation and repair operations. General assignments
are received from Supervisors, but Plumber II are expected to plan details of
each job and carry it to completion without immediate supervision. Work
involves independent judgment in assigning duties and selecting plumbing
methods to meet job requirements. Supervision is often exercised over the work
of Plumbers, Trades Helpers and Apprentices. This class differs from the
position of Plumber due to the supervision exercised over various projects and
personnel, including planning, scheduling and procuring materials.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Participates in laying out, planning, servicing
and scheduling the maintenance program for water and sewer systems;
Installs and repairs hot and cold water, oil,
steam or gas pipes and makes all necessary connections per code;
Installs and repairs water supply piping and
sewer mains;
Installs and repairs fixtures such as lavatory
facilities, back flow preventers, pumps, drinking fountains, sprinkler systems,
kitchen equipment and boilers;
Repairs, cuts, and threads pipes and valve
traps in heating and plumbing systems;
Intermittently assists skilled workmen or
related trades in general construction and maintenance work;
Instructs, supervises and documents the work of
other Plumbers, Trades Helpers and Apprentices in maintenance and repair of
systems;
Enters materials, labor hours, status and
details of work done into online work order management system;
Fully implements the evaluation system for all Plumbers,
Trades Helpers and Apprentices; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of the methods,
practices, codes, standards, and procedures in the repair and maintenance of
heating, plumbing and sewage systems;
Thorough knowledge of the common
hazards, practices and safety precautions in the trade;
Skill in the use of hand or power tools
used in the trade;
Ability to supervise the work of others;
Ability to understand and follow complex
oral and written instructions, including blueprints and schematics;
Ability to work in confined spaces;
Knowledge of technology (computer and/or
mobile device) to enter materials, labor hours, status and details of the work
done into the online work order management system;
Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland
Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with a driving record indicating five (5) or
fewer current points, of which no more than three (3) shall have been
accumulated as a result of traffic violations while operating a Board of
Education vehicle; and
Deemed as essential personnel; and may
be required to work day, night or weekend hours to meet the operational needs
of the department.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma, GED or completion of
standard vocational school program required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Journeyman
Plumbing Certificate and Back Flow Prevention Card required. Master Plumbing
license desired; with considerable experience as a Journeyman Plumber, some of
which shall have been at the level of a Plumber.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises
Plumbers, Trades Helpers and Apprentices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs.
