POSITION SUMMARY:


In Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), the Principal upholds and drives our shared core values and epitomizes PGCPS pride. The Principal is responsible for operating the instructional program and providing educational leadership for the staff, students, and community.   This is an exciting opportunity for a leader with the essential skills and experiences to have a lasting impact on Prince George’s County Public Schools’ employees and students.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Implements the school’s charter in collaboration with the school’s board of directors and the authorizing institution;

Provides instructional leadership for the alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment through the purposeful observation and evaluation of teachers;

Establishes and communicates standards for students including their academic performance;

Assesses school’s practices and procedures continuously and adjusts them to support the diverse learning needs of students;

Assumes responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of the students, staff and visitors;

Infuses the school culture with Imagine Schools Non-Profit’s Six Measures of Excellence;

Models positive character virtues and habits and assists students in developing positive moral and performance character attributes;

Oversees the financial management of the school, including development of the annual budget, oversees the management of accounts payable and accounts receivable, approves payroll, makes provisions of required financial reports to the board, district and state, and ensures the annual financial audit is completed in a timely manner;

Collaborates and clearly communicates with parents/guardians, all members of the school community and other educators;

Develops, articulates and implements a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community;

Builds professional learning communities to nurture and sustain a school culture and instructional program conducive to accelerated student achievement;

Acts ethically and according to professional norms to promote each student’s academic success and well-being;

Seeks and engages in professional activities that foster leadership development; building the capacity of the Assistant Principal and other aspiring leaders;

Fosters innovative thinkers who can help achieve the vision and mission of Prince George’s County Public Schools;

Demonstrates integrity, fairness, mutual respect, and high ethical standards; working cooperatively and interacts positively with students, staff and community exercising courtesy and discretion; serving as a role model for staff and students;

Complies with all Board of Education Policies, Administrative Procedures and operating procedures; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Demonstrates an understanding of the Imagine Schools Non-Profit Six Measures of Excellence in the execution of duties;

Strong analytical, leadership, project management and organizational skills;

Ability to work with individuals with varying degrees of expertise in varied departments/organizations;

Ability to create a team that works collaboratively and promotes high expectations for all students;

Knowledge and experience implementing curriculum and school operations;

Knowledge of current instructional practices;

Knowledge of current state and federal rules and regulations;

Strong human relations skills, including good verbal and written communications skills;

Knowledge of assessment and discipline methodology; and

Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with other staff, parents, vendors and community members in a multi-cultural environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in supervision and administration, curriculum and instruction, education, or related field required; Doctorate preferred.  Previous successful experience as a school-based administrator, (or other comparable leadership experience).  Comparable leadership experience includes but is not limited to: school Dean, or Assistant Principal equivalent position; district or central office level supervisor, director or manager. A minimum of three (3) years of successful administrative experience.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator II endorsement required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Supervises all school-based staff.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
