POSITION SUMMARY:
The
Print & Mail Services Technician oversees, operates, performs preventative
maintenance, and repairs of Bindery and Mailing equipment. An employee in this class acts as a working
supervisor and assists in coordinating finishing, binding, packing, shipping
activities or combination of all. The
work is performed in accordance with established practices procedures and work
methods. Constant attention and review of the work in progress is required to
insure accuracy, timeline of production and safe efficient delivery of mail and
printed material. This class is distinguished by the degree of responsibility
is involved. Work is performed under general supervision of print shop manager
and print shop foreman. Work is reviewed through conferences and observation of
results achieved.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Supervises
and expedites control over production, keeps Print Shop Foreman advised of any
unusual circumstances;
Insures
Staff is correctly using Print Shop Operating System, trains staff when
necessary;
Responsible
for quality control, examines all jobs for defects such as imperfect binding,
poor copy quality, loose, torn or uneven pages, etc., has the authority and
responsibly to halt production when specifications and quality requirements are
not being met;
Makes
calls to vendors for maintenance and service for all bindery and mailing
equipment and maintains service log records;
Coordinates
with warehouse operation for pickup and delivery of mail and printed material;
Accurately
records all time and materials incidental to the various operations performed
in the production of each job;
Trains
lower grade employees and assist in supervision;
Performs
routine clerical tasks incidental to the work, which includes creating packing
labels and routing slips;
Adheres
to, enforces and follows all safety regulations as established for the
department;
Maintains
work area to be clean, orderly and hazard free;
Ability
to lift moderately heavy articles and to do considerable standing and walking,
must be in good physical condition; and
Performs
related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Considerable
knowledge of all bindery, mailing and routing operations;
Ability
to learn within a reasonable time the setup, operation, and preventative
maintenance of new equipment;
Ability
to follow instructions by means of written or other forms of communication;
Ability
to work under pressure and meet short deadlines;
Ability
to coordinate, and supervise employees while routing, laying schedules, quality
control checks, and follow up on all work;
Ability
to maintain records and generate reports;
Ability
to operate remote terminal equipment and maintain records of items sent and received;
Establish
and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and
customers,
Must
be in good physical condition; and
Skilled
at problem solving.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Completion
of a standard High School Degree or equivalency, or any combination of
experience and training which will provide the required knowledge, skills and
abilities. A minimum of 5 years in the
printing field of which 3 years, (6,000 hours) must be in the operation of
complex bindery and mailing equipment, sufficient to the extent that it enables
the incumbent to provide guidance to employees engaged in the production of
highly skilled and technical print shop operations. Progressive experience in
the trade to include one to three years of leadership experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervising
print shop bindery and mail employees and coordinates the flow of work and
other related activities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
