POSITION SUMMARY:


  Under the supervision of the Senior Television Services Specialist, the incumbent of this position will work in the installation, operation, maintenance, and modification of equipment utilized in the school district's television studios.  The candidate shall be responsible for the management and direction of the operation and maintenance of the television systems, the PGCPS TV studio, and related TV film equipment. Work also involves directing the maintenance and repair of audiovisual equipment and computer controlled security access equipment.  Work is performed independently under the general direction of the Communications Officer and/or designee.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Supervises the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of equipment utilized in TV studios and closed circuit TV systems.

Advises and assists in the repair of complex equipment.

Inspects equipment and conducts performance checks to insure proper operation and conformity with federal/local regulations.

Schedules studio and screening room usage; maintains log of instructional programs.

Designs and constructs electronic components and equipment.

Initiates orders for repair and replacement items; recommends new equipment purchases.

Maintains parts and supply inventory; trains new personnel in the repair and maintenance of equipment.

Consults with instructional staff on training applications.

Instructs students on equipment usage and operation.

Maintains records for billing purposes and assesses charges.

Writing, shooting, producing, and editing reports on instructional, public affairs, and staff development television programs.

Assisting with Channel 96 programming schedules.

Setting up and breaking down all equipment used in productions.

Scheduling videotaping dates and locations.

Performing site surveys for remote locations.

Assisting in set designs and construction.

Selecting light sets using studio and remote lighting equipment.

Selecting music for programs.

Rehearsing with producers, talent, and technical crew.

Creating graphics and computer animation sequences.

Off-line editing of a rough-cut project, and on-line editing of all audio and video components for the final version of the program.

Creating air tapes as needed and maintaining videotape library.

Assisting Television Systems Engineer with determining what equipment and supplies are needed for Channel 96.

Works with, and directs, students and professional talent.

Hosts television programs and does voice-overs.

Works closely with television technical staff.

Organizes annual media festival.

Trains teachers on the use of instructional television programming.

Assists with Channel 12 programming.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Considerable professional experience writing and producing television programs; knowledge of the capabilities if professional television production equipment;

Ability to demonstrate creative, reflective and critical thinking skills; and

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching techniques and strategies; proficient computer skills; and excellent communicating and human relations skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Bachelor's degree with major course work in communications, or a related field, with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in producing, editing and directing, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
