POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the guidance of the Career Academy Instructional Supervisor, the Program
Coordinator for Academy of Homeland Security and Military Science (AHSMS) is
responsible for assisting in the implementation and monitoring of the
programs. The Program Coordinator will ensure programs provide students
with both academic and technical skills to gain industry certification and
support the dual enrollment opportunities within the AHSMS. Assist in
development of industry partnerships which provide students a variety of
options after graduation to include apprenticeship programs, degree programs at
two- and four-year colleges, private career schools, as well as
industry-sponsored education and training. Additionally, the Program
Coordinator will assist in ensuring all AHSMS programs of study are designed to
prepare students for work as well as align with a college readiness curriculum.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Assists in monitoring
instruction in the AHSMS programs to assure effectiveness of teaching and
learning;
Assists in
coordinating student recruitment/enrollment into the AHSMS programs;
Assists in
coordinating the maintenance and enhancement of AHSMS program facilities;
Assists in
coordinating the articulation between the AHSMS programs and academic programs;
Promotes and monitors
AHSMS student achievement through the AHSMS website which the Program
Coordinator will maintain;
Assists in
coordinating and supporting AHSMS teacher involvement in work-based learning
experiences for students;
Coordinates and facilitates open house
orientations for parents and students of interest;
Conducts informal
classrooms visitations in support of teacher and program needs;
Orders equipment,
supplies and materials for programs at various schools;
Assists in processing,
assigning and notifying students of application status;
Engages in professional
activities, which contribute to leadership development;
Communicates effectively
with students, staff and administrative and supervisory personnel, parents and
community;
Coordinates Advisory
Board Meetings; and
Performs other duties
as assigned.

Three
years of successful teaching/instructional experience;
Knowledge
of the use of computers, familiarization ArcGIS, Cisco, computer network
protocols preferred;
Extensive
knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
Ability to analyze student performance data;
Demonstrated
written and oral communication skills;
Experience in
providing professional development;
Demonstrated
ability to coordinate complex operations and activities in multiple settings;
Effective
human relations skills; and
Evidence
of effective leadership skills.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation
from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree required,
Master's degree preferred; Ten or more years of Military experience preferred;
Three of more years’ experience with the formation of Federal or State
Emergency Preparedness operations, plans, and systems, such as DHS, FEMA,
Federal Agencies, State, County, local programs; and Three of more years’
experience/familiarization in coordination of emergency preparedness and
response planning activities for catastrophic disasters or high visibility
national incidents.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds or is eligible
for an Advanced Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State
Department of Education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Training of teachers,
reading specialists, building administrators and/or central office personnel.
