POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Creative and Performing Arts Coordinator will monitor and assist with all aspects of the Creative and Performing Arts (CPA) program, including the staff members in the program, the students, the many activities, and business and community partnerships.  The program accepts students upon successful completion of auditions and is a popular and integral part of the school itself.  The hallmark of the program is the integration of the arts and the academics resulting in a creative and performing arts program of quality that strongly supports the core instructional program.  The CPA Coordinator reports directly to the Principal of the school and works closely with the Supervisor of the Creative Arts Department.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Coordinate all activities of the CPA program and advise Principal as needed;

Organize and hold the annual auditions of students for entrance into the program;

Assist the CPA staff in choosing the students from the auditions and notifying them of the outcome, also informing the Department of Creative Arts of the results;

Assist in the grouping and scheduling of students;

Provide assistance in acquiring transportation for students in the program who live outside of the school boundaries;

Meet quarterly with parents of the CPA students to share information about the program and its activities;

Participate as a member of the Attendance Committee and follow up with CPA students who are experiencing problems in the area of attendance;

Review the grades of the CPA students received for progress reports and report cards, assisting the individual CPA teachers in conferencing with the targeted students from their program and their parents;

Collaborate with the academic teachers, administrators, and counselors in reference to concerns about CPA students in the areas of attendance, academics, and/or behavior, attend Team SIT and SSST as needed;

Provide staff development opportunities that emphasize the integration of the arts and the academics;

Liaison with the Department of Creative Arts;

Supervise and monitor the progress of the CPA Students in their acquisition of skills applicable to their chosen majors;

Forge new partnerships and support existing partnerships between the individual CPA programs and local schools and universities, community organizations, and other entities within the local arts community;

Monitor after school rehearsals, activities;

Secure the arts groups that perform for the students in support of the Multicultural Initiative;

Serve as moderator/emcee for CPA and multicultural programs;

Supervise all fundraising activities of the various CPA programs;

Monitor all financial accounts associated with the CPA programs;

Assist the CPA staff members in designing and preparing performances, exhibits, publications, etc., that are required of each CPA group quarterly;

Provide demonstration lessons; and

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Three (3) years of successful teaching experience is required;

Demonstrated leadership and administrative competency;

Ability to organize and prioritize the many aspects of the position;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;

Effective human relations skills; and

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.   

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Holds or is eligible for a Maryland Professional Teaching Certificate; APC preferred.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
