POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision
and guidance of the College & Career Readiness Instructional Supervisor,
the Program Coordinator - Engineering and Science Academy, which includes Project
Lead the Way Pre-Engineering (PLTW), Gateway to Technology (GTT) and Computer
Science is responsible for assisting in the implementation and monitoring of
these programs as well as other STEM-focused activities. In addition to program
development and support, the Program Coordinator will assist with professional
development and serve as the liaison to the Engineering & Science
Professional Learning Communities, including PLTW/GTT. The Program Coordinator
is also assigned as the PLTW District Delegate and works closely with the PLTW
National Office to troubleshoot program issues and concerns and provide schools
guidance on student enrollment, instruction, professional development, and
End-of-Course (EOC) assessments. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will
assist schools with planning experiential learning opportunities that have
college and career foci.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Assists
in the implementation, monitoring, and assessment of the Engineering &
Science Academy programs to assure effectiveness of teaching and learning;
Serves
as a liaison to assigned career academy programs to ensure that the academies
are implemented and that the programs of study are followed (including
collaborative planning);
Monitors
program compliance and teacher needs for program improvement and enhancement;
Works with
and supports teachers to ensure that the Engineering & Science Academy
curricula are followed and troubleshoots concerns with the appropriate
stakeholders;
Communicates
priorities as they relate to the specific program area and assists in the
development of strategies for continuous improvement;
Executes
program decisions that have been approved by the Instructional Supervisor;
Assists in
the maintenance and enhancement of Engineering and Science Academy program
facilities;
Collects and
analyzes data related to the Engineering and Science Academy programs and
prepares quarterly and end of year reports summarizing the findings;
Assists with
planning and conducting professional development for academy teachers;
Schedules
meetings, and develops agendas, minutes, and program reports in collaboration
with the Instructional Supervisor;
Coordinates
and facilitates open house orientations, program-specific activities, and other
specific events for parents and students;
Orders
equipment, supplies and materials for programs under the guidance and approval
of the Instructional Supervisor;
Assists
with Perkins grant writing and development of all budgets that support the
Engineering & Science Academy programs as well as required reporting;
Assists
with the development of industry partners and supports teachers to provide
experiential learning, work-based learning, and internships;
Coordinates
logistics for assigned Program Advisory Board Meetings; and
Performs
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Strong
instructional skills and a broad knowledge of secondary curriculum;
Five years’
experience as a classroom teacher;
Experience
in a career academy program setting or industry experience required;
Ability
to work effectively and collaboratively with school administrators, classroom
teachers, post-secondary staff, and professional organizations in providing
rigorous academic experiences for all students;
Highly
self-motivated, self-directed and attentive to detail;
Excellent
planning, budgeting, and resource management skills;
Effective
time management, documentation and organizational skills;
Ability to
effectively prioritize and execute tasks under pressure;
Excellent
written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
Extensive
experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
Ability
to analyze student performance data;
Experience
in providing professional development; and
Proficiency
with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree
from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree with emphasis
in one of the career academy fields of instruction and course work in
curriculum development preferred.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds or is eligible
for an Advanced Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State
Department of Education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
