POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Program
Coordinator – National Board Certification coordinates the planning, strategic design
and implementation of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
(NBPTS) candidate support, and NBCT and teacher leadership development, while
supporting central office personnel, educators and administrative personnel in
achieving the goals of PGCPS. The
incumbent of this position is responsible for monitoring the program and establishing
measurable goals and objectives for the program in accordance with the
program’s design and implementation plan.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Assists
with the coordination and reporting necessary for program initiatives,
including but not limited to, grants, teacher leader/facilitator assignments,
curriculum writing projects, steering committee, mentor assignments and monthly
candidate support programs;
Constructs
and supports a cohort of educators pursuing National Board Certification (NBC)
by providing feedback to educators, building knowledge base and repertoire of instructional
skills while supporting educators' efforts to improve student achievement;
Coordinates
and attends candidate support provider (mentor) training provided by the NBPTS;
Provides
professional development for educators that demonstrates effective teaching
practices aligned with NBPTS standards and effective research based practice;
Collaborates
with school based principals/administration and PGCPS personnel to assist them
in utilizing NBCTs in educational leadership roles; supports the school
administration in the school improvement process;
Utilizes
national and state trends and research for improving student achievement,
specifically related to educator quality, the Framework for Teaching, and NBPTS
core propositions;
Collaborates
with principals and administrative teams in planning staff development
activities to address areas of need in the assigned schools, particularly in
regard to existing PGCPS and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
initiatives;
Identifies
and recruits educators to participate in the National Board Certification process;
Assists
candidates in setting goals related to portfolio development and candidacy; provides
support to candidates in person, by phone or email for NBPTS portfolio entries,
recording and professional development;
Designs
training curricula and support modules to facilitate the work of NBCTs and educators;
and
Performs
other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Experience
in instructional leadership (i.e., team leader, instructional specialist,
resource teacher, department chair, system-wide committees, etc.);
Demonstrated skill and knowledge in
designing, implementing, and evaluating major programs and activities to bring
about needed change and higher performance;
Experience
in mentoring, coaching, or working with adults;
Effective
human relations and interpersonal skills; systems and etiquette that support
excellent customer service;
Demonstrated
skills in report writing and record-keeping techniques, as well as presentation,
communication, and public speaking techniques;
Experience
in grant management and budget preparation;
Computer
literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs and
Google Applications; ability to use Google Hangout and other online meeting
tools; and
Ability to use diversified approaches
and processes to involve others in generating solutions, predicting consequences
and setting priorities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university in education, subject field, curriculum and instruction or related
field required; Master’s degree
preferred. A minimum of four (4) years of
successful teaching experience required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds or is
eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State
Department of Education; National Board Teacher
Certification required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
