POSITION SUMMARY:
The
Program Coordinator – Personal Finance and Empowerment works within the
Department of Career and Technical Education (CTE) to support the successful
implementation of the Financial Literacy graduation requirement course. The Program Coordinator assists in the
development of aligned curricula and professional development opportunities for
school-based staff. The Program
Coordinator assists in developing experiential learning opportunities with
business partners, community members and post-secondary institutions for
student extended learning. The Program
Coordinator will follow PGCPS’s required practices and procedures, as well as provide
an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social
and emotional development of students.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Provides
curriculum support for high school educators in the district by updating the
current set of high school lessons, cataloging top curriculum resource
providers on the PGCPS website, providing coaching services to educators during
classroom visits or remote learning sessions,
and developing cross-curricular lessons to be shared across the
curriculum;
Coordinates
and designs the delivery of professional development programs (both virtually
and in-person) with business and community partners to assist students in
connecting their academic learning and career planning with real-life
experiences and to increase the content knowledge and collaboration among
educators in the district;
Participates
in programming developed for NGPF (Next Generation Personal Finance) Financial
Empowerment and Equity grantees to share best practices and collaborate on
common challenges;
Assists
in evaluating instructional materials, textbooks, software, and industry
materials and equipment;
Builds
a coalition of key stakeholders as a Program Advisory Committee, including the
Prince George’s County business community, to build community support for the
program;
Leads
parent seminars designed to complement curriculum being used in the classrooms;
disseminates quarterly newsletters to key stakeholders; and arranges
informational events and activities to promote Financial Literacy Month;
Prepares
an annual budget; acquires supplies and equipment; and coordinates the
acquisition, delivery, and inventory of materials of instruction, resources and
equipment for program support and improvement;
Surveys
PGCPS high schools to develop baseline data regarding the implementation of the
Financial Literacy requirement and maintains statistical data on system
assessments, completions and certifications to inform program decisions; and
Performs
other duties as assigned.

Strong instructional and facilitator

professional development workshops;
Familiarity with multiple personal
finance curriculum providers;
Knowledge of current trends in career and
technical education and special emphasis on curriculum, assessment and career
experiences;

Excellent written, oral and

Ability

inventory and student data records; and

belief that all students should have access to high quality, engaging
curriculum before graduating high school.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from
an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of five (5)
years of teaching experience in personal finance required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds
or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate appropriate to the area
of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
