POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Principal, the Program
Coordinator – Science and Technology will oversee and assist with the planning,
implementation, monitoring, assessment and reporting of the Science and
Technology Program. This position will also promote rigorous, high-tech STEM
rich learning, which will ensure that students gain the necessary edge to
compete and succeed in the global economy. This position will also interact
with and encourage parent involvement in student learning through open houses,
symposiums, competitions, volunteering, parent/teacher conferences, etc. The Program Coordinator – Science and
Technology will develop solid relationships with and promote good community
relations among all key stakeholders.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Coordinates the Science and Technology Program
in conjunction with the appropriate school and central office staff;
Coordinates the collection of data to
measure the impact of the overall Science and Technology Program and utilize
the data to report and make recommendations for improving the Science and
Technology program;
Coordinates equipment, supplies and
materials orders specific to the Science and Technology Program using
district-allocated funds for the program;
Coordinates and facilitates open houses,
orientations, research symposiums and other science and technology activities
for partners, parents and students of interest;
Assists in the planning, development,
implementation, monitoring, reporting and assessment of science and technology
and its related instructional programs, activities and events;
Provides leadership in concert with the
Principal and central office staff, for the implementation and management of
the Science and Technology Program and curriculum within the school;
Provides instructional support to the science
and technology teachers in the areas of curriculum and instruction and
assessment management;
Collaborates with the school-based
instructional team, including department chairs, to ensure a consistent,
rigorous and equitable educational experience in the Science and Technology
Program;
Monitors and assesses student
achievement in class and assists in counseling students and following district
guidelines in recommendation for entrance, monitoring and exiting as outlined
in Administrative procedure 6142;
Designs, monitors and leads school-based
programs for interventions and support of science and technology students;
Develops and presents STEM professional
development for teachers;
Develops effective strategies for
recruiting students to the Science and Technology Program through marketing
materials, information sessions, and building relationships with key
stakeholders at feeder schools;
Facilitates student participation in
national, regional and local STEM-centric organizations and competitions;
Works with the Principal and
school-based bookkeeper/accountant to prepare necessary reports to central
office on the expenditures of allocated Science and Technology Program funds;
Prepares and submits periodic reports,
as requested, to include a beginning and end-of-year summary report to the STEM
Office on the Science and Technology Program;
Informs staff and teachers on
professional development opportunities during the school year and summer and
engages in professional activities, which contribute to building capacity,
leadership growth and development;
Plans, organizes and coordinates summer
and support programs for students;
Plans and implements special events for
students and stakeholders that will encourage, guide, and educate on the
different choices available in the areas of science, technology, engineering
and mathematics;
Communicates effectively with students,
staff, administrative and supervisory personnel, parents and the community; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge of science, technology,
engineering and mathematics (STEM) curriculum;
Demonstrated leadership and
administrative competency;
Ability to organize and prioritize the
many aspects of the position;
Ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships;
Knowledge of the use of computers;
Excellent written and oral interpersonal
skills;
Extensive knowledge and experience with
Microsoft word, excel, and power point;
Developed skillset in preparing and
presenting reports at the school and district level; and
Competency in creating presentations using
modern technology.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
in applicable field of education required; Master’s degree preferred. A degree in a STEM field preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of successful
teaching experience required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds
or is eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate appropriate to the area
of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education; Administrator
I certification preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
