POSITION SUMMARY:


  The Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator will monitor and assist with all aspects of the Visual and Performing Arts program, including the staff members in the program, the students, the many activities, and business and community partnerships. The program accepts students upon successful completion of auditions and is a popular and integral part of the school itself. The hallmark of the program is the integration of the arts and academics, resulting in a visual and performing arts program of quality that strongly supports the core program. The Coordinator reports directly to the Principal regarding instructional and curricular responsibilities. The Coordinator is responsible for implementation of the audition process under the guidance of the Coordinating Supervisor for Creative Arts Programs.  The Coordinator works closely with the Principal and Coordinating Supervisor in collaboration with the fine arts supervisors to ensure alignment with systemic processes and initiatives.   

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Coordinates all activities of the VPA program and works with the Principal and Coordinating Supervisor to ensure compliance with systemic processes and initiatives;

Organizes and coordinates the application and audition process under the purview of the Coordinating Supervisor for Creative Arts Programs and in collaboration with all Fine Arts Supervisors, teachers and Principal.  Includes electronic application and audition processes, paperwork and communications;

Works with teachers to secure, compensate and schedule all applied staff;

Works with teachers to coordinate recruiting concerts at feeder schools;

Works closely with guidance, transportation, department chairs, and parents to coordinate all aspects of the VPA Academy;      

Assists the VPA staff in choosing the students from the auditions and notifying the families of the outcome. Also informing the Principal, Pupil Accounting and School Boundaries (PASB) and the Coordinating Supervisor for Creative Arts Programs of the results;

Assists in the grouping and scheduling of students;

Works with transportation to provide transportation for students in the program;

Communicates regularly with  parents  of  the  VPA  students  to  share  information  about  the program and its activities;

Monitors student attendance and follow up with VPA students who are experiencing difficulties in the area of attendance;

Regularly reviews the grades of the VPA students (especially those received for progress reports and report cards), assisting the individual VPA teachers in conferencing with the targeted students from their program and their parent;

Collaborates with the academic teachers, administrators, and counselors in reference to concerns about VPA students in the areas of attendance, academics, and/or behavior, attends SIT and SSST Team Meetings as needed;

Works with Instructional Lead Teacher-Arts Integration to provide workshops and staff development for teachers in arts instruction and arts integration;

Communicates regularly with Principal and Instructional Lead Teacher-Arts Integration regarding financial accounts associated with the VPA Programs;

Assists the teachers with monitoring the progress of the VPA students in their acquisition of skills applicable to their chosen majors;

Forge new partnerships and support existing partnerships between the individual VPA programs and  local  schools  and  universities,  community  organizations,  and  other entities within the local arts community;

Monitor after school rehearsals and activities;

Coordinates field trips, college tours, workshops for students and teachers, performances, etc. and ensures that all paperwork is submitted and on file in a timely manner;

Monitors all financial accounts associated with the VPA programs; hourly instructional personnel, consultants, hourly instructional personnel, VPA staff members in designing and preparing performances, exhibits, publications, etc.; and

Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Five (5) years of successful teaching experience is required;    

Ability to organize and prioritize the many aspects of the position;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;  

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills;

Demonstrated leadership and administrative competency;

Effective human relations skills;

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships; and

Demonstrated ability to work with teachers to plan and coordinate instructional program.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education required; Master's Degree and Secondary Experience preferred.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Holds an Advanced Professional Certificate; Certified in one of the Fine Arts Discipline required; Administration I certification preferred.


 

 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.
