POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the general supervision of the HVAC/Plumbing Master Foreman, the Pump Motor
Repair Foreman supervises and performs highly skilled work involving
responsibility for the performance of difficult and specialized pump, bearing,
motor, maintenance, installation and repair.
Work involves independent judgement in organization of shop inventory,
parts, tools necessary to complete repair and replacement of pumps and motors
related to building services. Incumbent
may be required at times to act as crew foreman to supervise and assist in the
repair of HVAC plumbing, heating and cooling systems in school buildings and
facilities.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Performs diagnosis for line and load voltage on
Variable Frequency Drives;
Checks, repairs, maintains and adjusts pumps,
motors, bearings and associated equipment;
Replaces belts, induced draft fans and oil
pumps; replaces bearings, replaces seals and packing, aligns shaft on oil pumps
and replaces faulty or worn parts;
Repairs and/or replaces unit ventilator motors
and air compressors;
Keeps inventory of parts, motors, tools and
pumps;
Checks fuses and line starters, traces and
finds shorts, checks connections, rewires faulty wiring on new controls, and checks
and repairs electrical motors;
Maintains and repairs pumps, motors and
hydraulic systems;
Dismantles and overhauls various equipment
related to the HVAC/plumbing trade;
Installs and repairs steam lines, hot and chill
water lines and makes all necessary connections;
Installs and repairs water supply piping
including feed lines for HVAC related equipment;
Repairs, cuts and threads pipes and valve traps
in heating and plumbing systems;
Intermittently assists skilled workmen or
related trades in general construction and maintenance work;
Orders, stocks and maintains various
replacement parts, motors, tools, etc.;
Instructs, supervises and documents the work of
Plumbers, HVAC Refrigerator Mechanics, Steam Fitters, Water Treatment
Technician, Apprentices and Trades Helpers in the maintenance and repair of
systems;
Fully implements the evaluation system for all Plumbers,
HVAC Refrigerator Mechanics, Steam Fitters, Water Treatment Technician,
Apprentices and Trades Helpers;
Enters materials, labor hours, status and
details of work done into the online
work order management system; and
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Thorough knowledge of the methods,
practices, standards, and procedures in the repair and maintenance of heating,
plumbing and hydronic systems;
Thorough knowledge of the common hazards,
practices and safety precautions in the trade;
Ability to understand and follow complex
oral and written instructions, including blueprints and schematics;
Ability
to work in confined spaces;
Knowledge
of technology (computer and/or mobile device) to enter materials, labor hours,
status and details of the work done into the online work order management
system
Possession of an appropriate and valid
Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with driving record indicating five
(5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been
accumulated as a result of traffic violations while operating a Board of
Education vehicle; and
Deemed
as essential personnel and may be required to work day, night or
weekend hours to meet the operational needs of the department.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma, GED or completion of a vocational
school program required, with five (5) years of experience in HVAC, plumbing
and hydronic systems.

Plumbers,
HVAC Refrigerator Mechanics, Steam Fitters, Water Treatment Technicians, Apprentices
and Trades Helpers.

The employee is required to maintain sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions, solvents, odors, and adverse weather conditions.
