POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor – High School Mathematics, the Resource Math Teacher will provide support, training and required assistance to successfully implement the mathematics program in high schools. The Resource Teacher will assist with the planning, developing, and implementing of curriculum, assessments, and professional development of the High School Mathematics Program.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Revises curriculum as needed to reflect the Maryland State College and Career Ready Standards for mathematics;

Provides assessments reflecting Maryland State College and Career Ready Standards goals and concepts;

Reviews county data for secondary mathematics and provides classroom support to teachers in the form of collaboration, planning, co-teaching and/or coaching;

Provides feedback to classroom teachers that supports delivery of effective mathematics instruction;

Facilitates professional development with focus on mathematics content and pedagogy for secondary mathematics teachers;

Encourages schools to utilize data to make sound decisions for students and to differentiate instruction;

Provides modeling and strategies for optimum teaching delivery and student results;

Attends professional meetings and facilitates follow-up sessions at the school level as necessary;

Serves as an instructional resource in Mathematics for high school administrators, counselors, teachers and parents for district initiatives and programs;

Writes reports, maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices; and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Thorough knowledge of the secondary mathematics curriculum and current best practices;

Demonstrated competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for a variety of audiences;

Knowledge of Maryland State College and Career Ready Standards, and PARCC assessments;

Strong “coaching skills” and ability to collaborate with others;

In-depth knowledge of processes, acquisition, assessment, and instruction, intervention strategies, goals and objectives of the curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of instruction;

Good knowledge and understanding of the teaching/learning process;

Ability to work effectively with administration, colleagues, central office staff, students, parents and community; and

Excellent oral and communication skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree preferred) from a regionally accredited college or university and five (5) years of successful teaching experiences mathematics in middle or high school.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Secondary Mathematics Certification and Advanced Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
