POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the direction of the Principal and/or Instructional Supervisor, the Resource Teacher
– Special Education provides specially designed instruction, case management,
systemic professional development, and leadership to ensure compliance with
federal and state regulations governing the special education processes and
procedures.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Provides specially designed instruction to
students with disabilities, including participation in collaborative planning
meetings, implementation of reading and mathematics interventions, accommodations,
program modifications, supplementary aids and services;
Collects data on student performance and
reports progress on Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and student
outcomes based on the implementation of specially designed instruction;
Participates in Individualized Education
Program (IEP) meetings and provides case management duties to ensure special
education processes and timelines are implemented;
Administers and interprets both formal,
informal, and educational and classroom-based assessment for students to inform
instructional decisions;
Selects and adapts materials and resources to
assist students with disabilities in accessing the general education
curriculum;
Participates in professional development
activities designed to advance educator knowledge in the areas of specially
designed instruction, best practices, changes in special education policy, and
other information as may be necessary to support effective classroom instruction
and programming for students with disabilities;
Attends and participates in school based and
district meetings;
Writes reports, maintains required records and
follows required procedures and practices; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge of federal/state regulations
governing special education processes to include specially designed
instruction, teaching methodology, evidenced based practices/strategies,
alternate instructional framework, disciplinary procedures, and behavior
management for students with disabilities;
Knowledge of the Maryland College and
Career-Ready Standards, state and district assessments, and the ability to
apply them to curriculum, classroom instruction and the IEP process as
appropriate;
Knowledge of district curriculum, text
resources and classroom materials to ensure the delivery of specially designed
instruction (e.g. instructional/assessment accommodations, modifications,
supplementary aids and related services) to provide support to general and
special education teachers;
Proficient in using the Maryland Online
IEP system;
Strong communication and leadership
skills to work collaboratively with administration, staff, students and
parents;
Possesses
proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Google Suite
and skilled using the internet for work related research;
Ability to provide academic and
behavioral strategies to support student academic achievement;
Ability to integrate technology into the
curriculum;
Ability to work effectively with
students, parents, colleagues, administrators, school/district staff and other
members of a diverse community; and
Ability to work as a part of a
collaborative team.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s
degree from an accredited college or university in applicable
field of education required; Master’s degree preferred. Special
Education teaching experience having taught students with disabilities and
trained in the delivery of specially designed instruction.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds
or is eligible for a Maryland Professional Certificate appropriate to area of
assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No
direct supervisory responsibilities.
