POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction
of the Instructional Supervisor, the Resource Teacher – Theatre/Drama is
responsible for assisting in the monitoring of K-12 Theatre/Drama instruction,
educational resources, Arts Integration-related initiatives and developing and
implementing curriculum, professional development, Theatre Festival, systemic
assessments and program evaluation. The
Resource Teacher – Theatre/Drama assists the Instructional Supervisor with informal
observations and developing, executing and providing systemic theatre education
opportunities to teachers, students and parents.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Assists in providing direct support to
K-12 Theatre/Drama educators and assists in coordinating short and long-range
planning for the improvement of the K-12 Theatre/Drama education programs;
Assists in the development and
implementation of K-12 Theatre/Drama curriculum; collaborates with non-arts
disciplines to develop arts integrated lessons for the various content areas;
Assists in the development and
implementation of professional development for K-12 Theatre/Drama educators
including the designing and teaching of state approved workshops, summer
institutes, after school programs, and Theatre education leadership
conferences;
Assists in providing regional and
school-level workshops on curricula issues, teaching strategies, and behavior
management;
Collaborates with the Department of
Curriculum and Instruction in support of systemic program initiatives related
to Theatre/Drama education;
Plans events related to applications,
auditions, performance assessments, honors theatre, festivals and other
enrichment programs;
Facilitates evening and Saturday events,
as required; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge and understanding of K-12
Theatre/Drama instructional programs at Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS);
Knowledge of state and nation standards,
benchmarks, and alternative modes of assessment;
Knowledge of current trends in Theatre
education including pedagogy, instructional strategies, performance-based
assessment and instructional materials;
Knowledge of instructional strategies
related to distance and hybrid learning;
Experience in writing curriculum framework
guides for K-12 Theatre/Drama instruction and arts integrated curriculum;
Experience in writing and managing
grants and budgets;
Experience in program evaluation;
Demonstrated competence in developing
and leading staff development sessions for educators, principals, and parents;
Must be skilled in the use of
technology, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Canvas, Flip Grid,
etc.;
Demonstrated skill in effective human
relations and in oral and written communications.
Must be able to travel locally from
school to school;
Commitment to professional growth as
demonstrated by professional conference attendance and leadership at the county
or state level; and
Ability to plan and coordinate events.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Theatre
from a regionally accredited college or university and five (5) years of
successful teaching experience in theatre required. Master’s degree preferred.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds or is eligible
for an Advanced Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State
Department of Education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
