POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Resource Teacher – Visual Art is responsible for assisting in the monitoring of visual art instruction, educational resources, arts integration-related initiatives and executing administrative responsibilities as required. The Resource Teacher – Visual Art assists the Instructional Supervisor with developing, executing and providing systemic visual art education opportunities for teachers and parents. The Resource Teacher – Visual Art assists the Instructional Supervisor with all facets of curriculum development, professional development for staff, systemic visual art assessments, exhibits, and program evaluation. 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Assists in the development and implementation in the areas of elementary, middle and high school visual art curriculum;

Collaborates with non-arts disciplines to develop arts integrated lessons for various content areas;

Assists in the development of monitoring tools for the evaluation of the visual art instructional program;

Assists in providing direct support to all classroom teachers in the areas of Visual Arts instruction;

Assists in the coordination of both short and long-range planning for the improvement of the visual art education program in PGCPS;

Assists in the development and implementation of professional development for all content teachers, including the designing and teaching of state approved workshops, summer institutes, after school programs and visual art education leadership conferences;

Assists in providing regional and school-level workshops on curricula issues, teaching strategies and behavior management; 

Leads PreK-12 teacher leaders and other instructional personnel in assisting educators directly with aligning classroom strategies to the curriculum in all content areas;

Collaborates with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in support of systemic program initiatives related to visual art education;

Assists in the management of budgets and purchase orders; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Knowledge of state and national standards, benchmarks, and alternative modes of assessment;

Thorough knowledge of instructional strategies and current trans disciplinary practices required;

Experience in writing curriculum framework guides for Arts Integration curriculum desired;

Ability to understand, model and demonstrate technical visual art skills, visual art pedagogy, culturally responsive teaching and arts integration strategies;

Experience in writing and managing grants and budgets desired;

Demonstrated competence in developing and leading staff development sessions for educators, principals and parents;

Experience in leading staff development initiatives; and

Demonstrated skill in effective human relations and in oral and written communications.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in applicable field of education; Master’ degree preferred.  A minimum of five (5) years of successful visual art teaching experience; teaching multiple instructional levels (ES, MS, HS) preferred.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Advanced Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.
