POSITION SUMMARY:


Under general supervision, has responsibility for the work performed by Warehouseman I as well as actively performing manual and clerical work in maintaining a storage site for general classes of supplies and equipment. An employee in this class is responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing supplies and equipment in a moderately large storage site or several smaller storage sites; oversees the day-to-day activity of employees assigned to the storage site(s). The work involves performance of essentially the same duties as those performed by a Warehouseman I; however, somewhat greater responsibility is involved in that the employee is held accountable for the efficient operation and security of the site(s) to which assigned. These duties are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures, and under general supervision from the Warehouse Leader and/or Warehouse Manager. Assistance is received from other employees as required.    

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Oversees the work in progress of employees assigned to the work site(s); keeps storage areas and stock contained therein in a clean, orderly and serviceable condition; insures that work orders for structural maintenance of the site(s) are issued in a timely fashion;

Receives supplies and equipment, check against appropriate documents or notes and reports any discrepancies in physical count, identity or condition; unpacks and stores supplies and equipment to proper location and manner in accordance with established procedures and methods;

Rearranges and/or relocates stock as necessary to accommodate changing needs and requirements; safeguards stock against loss, damage or theft; participates in making periodic or special inventories;

Fills orders for supported activities by selecting and assembling designated items from stock; prepares supplies and equipment to checking for correct quantities and item identification; packs supplies and equipment; loads and unloads supplies and equipment and performs other manual tasks as directed; and

Keeps storage areas and property in clean, orderly and serviceable condition.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Good knowledge of modern storekeeping and shipping methods and practices;

Some knowledge of a wide variety of supplies, materials, tools and equipment and related terminology;

Ability to check parts, supplies and equipment against specifications;

Ability to make mathematical computation with accuracy;

Ability to keep accurate records and make reports when requested;

Ability to direct efforts of employees in lower salary levels;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and employees;

Strength and agility to facilitate the handling of bulky and heavy stock items; and

Must be in good physical condition to permit handling the items kept in stock.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


 

Completion of a standard high school diploma or GED, with some experience and training at the level of Warehouseman II, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

 



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


 

Possession of an appropriate and valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operators License with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.


 



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.
