POSITION SUMMARY:
Under
the direction of the Administrative Nurse
Practitioner, the Wellness Program Coordinator will manage and provide
oversight to wellness programs implemented by Health Services, including but
not limited to, School-Based Wellness Centers, telehealth, immunizations,
Wellness Council, etc. The incumbent of this position will provide professional
development and collaborate with district offices and local agencies that
provide or impact wellness services. This position assures that programs are
carried out in accordance with established procedures and practices established
by the Maryland Nurse Practice Act, Federal and State Laws, State and Local
Health Departments, the Board of Education, and any other county policies that
may apply.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Assists in providing day-to-day
oversight of wellness centers and district initiatives including referrals,
data collection, evaluation, feedback, and monitoring of key stakeholders;
Develops and monitors the implementation
and need for wellness and health programs and initiatives to support the
overall wellness of students, families and staff by providing professional
development for communities, leveraging resources and seeking grant
opportunities;
Develops and maintains partnerships with
key internal and external stakeholders to support district wide community,
student and staff wellness initiatives;
Serves as the leader and liaison to
ensure successful outcomes of community wellness initiatives by leading
activities, collaborating and thought-partnering with other key district
offices, agencies and constituents;
Ensures the fidelity of record keeping
and ensures confidential information is stored and secured;
Promotes public service announcements,
literature and multimedia promotions and advertisements for all communities to
include non-English speaking families;
Participates and attends national, state
and county meetings to address the wellness needs of communities, students and
families in Prince George's County;
Develops, reviews and monitors adherence
to policies and procedures to ensure the school system's compliance, and
engages in required state reporting requirements;
Leads the development and revision of
policies and procedures related to School-Based Wellness Centers and training
to students, families, staff and external stakeholders regarding wellness;
Provides consultation to nurses as
needed regarding wellness activities, programs and procedural matters; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge of PGCPS, community and public
health goals, missions and theories that support and promote wellness;
Extensive knowledge of child and adolescent
development, health, substance abuse/use and reproductive health;
Working knowledge of the goals and
potential outcomes of school-based wellness centers;
Knowledge of local successful and
efficient community programs and local and state health organizations;
Excellent listening skills, communication
skills both orally and written for a variety of audiences; bilingual in
English and Spanish in reading, writing, speaking and listening preferred;
Proficient technology skills to utilize
various computer programs and technology to develop presentations and create
documents;
Ability to serve students, families and
staff from various socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures;
Ability to organize, plan, coordinate
and direct a variety of programs and services;
Ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with others;
Ability to function effectively in
multiple environments;
Effective collaboration and
problem-solving skills; and
Ability to take initiative and provide
self-directed leadership skills while promoting wellness.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s
degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, public health or a
closely related field required. A
minimum of three (3) years of successful experience working as a nurse in the
field of public or community health required.
Experience in leading/participating on multiple and various committees,
providing direct support to children and adults, and writing state and federal
grants preferred.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Holds
or is eligible for a Maryland Registered Nurse (RN) License.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains
accountability for program oversight and provides consultation to school nurses
as needed.
